9th Death Anniversary of IUBAT Founder Prof. Dr. M. Alimullah Miyan Observed

The 9th death anniversary of the pioneer of private university education in Bangladesh and Founder Vice Chancellor of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), Prof. Dr. M. Alimullah Miyan, was observed today (May 10) with due respect and solemnity.

 

Born on February 15, 1942, in Kailaine village under Chandina Upazila of Cumilla district, Prof. Miyan passed away on May 10, 2017. Through his visionary leadership and groundbreaking initiatives, he introduced the concept of private university education in Bangladesh and opened a new horizon in the country’s higher education sector. Under his leadership, IUBAT was established in January 1991 as the first private university in Bangladesh.

 

To mark the occasion, floral tributes were placed at the grave of Prof. Miyan. Members of the IUBAT family offered prayers for the eternal peace of his soul and paid deep respect to his memory.

 

Later, a discussion session on the life and contributions of Prof. Dr. M. Alimullah Miyan was organized at the IUBAT campus. The program was addressed by the Vice Chancellor of IUBAT, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Registrar Prof. Dr. Md. Momtazur Rahman, and Controller of Examinations Brigadier General Md. Zahid Hossain, PhD (Retd.). Deans of different faculties, chairpersons, faculty members, officials, and students were also present at the event.

 

The speakers highlighted Prof. Miyan’s visionary leadership, remarkable contribution to the development of education, and relentless efforts to establish an internationally recognized institution of higher education. They mentioned that his ideals, values, and philosophy of work continue to inspire the IUBAT family in pursuing excellence in education and national service.

 

Prof. Miyan had a distinguished academic and professional career. He obtained his B.Com (Honours) degree in 1962 and M.Com degree in 1963 from the University of Dhaka. Later, he earned an MBA degree from Indiana University, USA, in 1968 and a PhD degree from Manchester School of Business, UK, in 1976.

 

In his professional career, he served for many years as a faculty member and Director at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka. He was also the founding Chairman of the Center for Population Management and Research (CPMR). As a teacher, researcher, and institutional development expert, he made significant contributions from 1963 to 1994. He also served as a Visiting Professor at Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria.

 

On the occasion of the death anniversary, various programs including a doa mahfil, remembrance session, and open discussion on his life and works were organized at the IUBAT campus.
