IUBAT Hosts Sustainability Olympiad 2025: A New Milestone in Promoting Environmental Awareness

International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) successfully organized the 2nd Sustainability Olympiad 2025, aimed at fostering environmental awareness among students and the academic community. The event was jointly hosted by the Department of Environmental Science, the Institute of Sustainable Sciences (IISS), RCE Greater Dhaka and the Knowledge Based Area Development (KBAD) program of IUBAT.

The Olympiad witnessed the participation of nearly 240 students from 25 colleges across the country, making it a vibrant platform for sharing ideas and solutions on sustainability. The program took place today at 2:20 PM in Room 227 of IUBAT campus.

The event was graced by Dr. Susan Vize, UNESCO Representative to Bangladesh and Head of Office, as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT, presided over the session. Distinguished guests included Dr. Mohammed Moniruzzaman Khan, Director, Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, University of Dhaka, and Dulon Joseph Gomes, Director of Humanitarian Emergency Affairs and Climate Change Adaptation at World Vision Bangladesh.

In addition to students, 25 college principals were invited, underscoring the commitment of the education community to environmental protection and sustainability. The program featured interactive sessions, knowledge-based competitions, and open discussions, encouraging participants to devise innovative solutions to tackle environmental challenges. However, this program was co-organized and sponsored by World Vision Bangladesh. In addition, ten (10) college students were awarded from this Sustainability Olympiad at IUBAT.

Expressing gratitude to the organizing committee, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT, said: We believe the 2nd Sustainability Olympiad will instill a positive mindset among students and inspire them to play an active role in building a sustainable future. This initiative reflects IUBAT’s strong commitment to promoting environmental education and fulfilling its social and academic responsibilities through green initiatives."

IUBAT is the first non-government university in Bangladesh, established in 1991 by renowned educationist Prof. Dr. M. Alimullah Miyan. The university is home to thousands of students from across Bangladesh as well as over a hundred students from 12 countries in Asia and Africa, fostering a diverse and dynamic academic environment.
