
After a successful five-year continuous trial of perennial rice at the IUBAT Agricultural Research Field, the rice is now being successfully cultivated across various Agro-Ecological Zones of Bangladesh. To evaluate its performance during the Boro season, local high-yielding varieties were cultivated alongside perennial rice. Promising results were observed in this first season, and harvesting ceremonies were held in different regions.
A successful harvesting ceremony was held in Faridpur on June 10, 2025, inaugurated by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of IUBAT, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab. He expressed his satisfaction upon observing the performance of perennial rice.

On June 18, 2025, a harvesting ceremony was held in Gazipur, inaugurated by distinguished representatives of the Seed Certification Agency (SCA) of Bangladesh, the Additional Director (Field Administration, Planning & Monitoring) KBD Md. Nuruzzaman, the Deputy Director (Planning, Implementation & Evaluation) KBD Md. Shawkat Hossain Bhuiyan, and the District Seed Certification Officer of Gazipur, KBD Asish Kumar Kar.
A successful Field Day was also organized in Dinajpur on June 19, 2025, with the participation of 35 local farmers. The event was graced by the presence of the District Seed Certification Officer of Dinajpur, KBD Md. Jafor Iqbal, and the Upazila Agriculture Officer, KBD Md. Asaduzzaman.
This research project is conducted with funding from the Miyan Research Institute of IUBAT and technical collaboration with the College of Agriculture of Yunnan University, China. The research team was led by the Principal Investigator, Prof. Dr. Farjana Sultana, along with the Co-Investigators Prof. Dr. Khandakar Shariful Islam, Dr. Fahim Ahmed and Dr. Abu Yousuf Hosssain of the College of Agriculture, IUBAT.
